Review of Drunk On Love by Priyanka Gupta

Rating: 4.5/5

When I picked up Drunk On Love, I wasn’t expecting the comforting blend of warmth, wit, and slow-burn romance that this book delivered. From the very first chapter, I was drawn into Kiara and Manav’s world—a world that’s both messy and magical. The title intrigued me, and by the end, I realized just how fitting it was. It’s not a tale of instant fireworks but a slow intoxication—the kind of love that brews quietly and deeply until it consumes you.

Kiara Randhawa – A Protagonist I Could Instantly Root For

Kiara, the bestselling author suffering from writer’s block, felt incredibly relatable. Her emotional vulnerability, her sass, and even her quirks made her feel like someone I could be friends with. She’s successful but stuck, charming but unsure—and Priyanka Gupta has written her with a sensitivity that makes you root for her healing. As a reader who loves character-driven stories, I appreciated how her internal conflict was just as central to the story as the romance itself.

Manav Oberoi – The Brooding Billionaire With a Twist

Let’s talk about Manav—our tall, mysterious, brooding chef-billionaire. Yes, he ticks all the romance genre boxes, but thankfully, he’s not a cardboard cutout. There’s pain and silence in his character that slowly unfolds with subtlety. His dynamic with Kiara is electric, not because they fall into each other instantly, but because their chemistry builds with conversations, shared spaces, and little domestic moments. I loved how Manav’s character was developed with restraint—it made his eventual vulnerability hit harder.

The Setup – Close Proximity Done Right

The “living together under the same roof” trope can feel forced in many romance novels, but here, it worked. The way Kiara and Manav’s lives intertwine—through misunderstandings, coincidences, and emotional proximity—felt organic. Their evolving relationship is peppered with playful banter, charged silences, and honest confessions. It’s in the kitchen, in late-night chats, and during writer’s meltdowns that their love story begins to simmer. And by the time it boils over, you’re fully invested.

Writing Style – Simple, Fluid, and Surprisingly Emotional

Priyanka Gupta’s writing is clean and accessible, which works well for a contemporary romance. What surprised me was how deeply emotional some scenes felt, despite the light tone overall. The narration is simple, but the emotions aren’t. There are moments where the prose cuts unexpectedly deep—especially during the characters' personal revelations. The dialogues feel natural, and the romantic tension is very well-paced. The story does linger a bit in the middle, but I never felt disconnected.

A Few Tiny Flaws, But Nothing Too Bitter

While I truly enjoyed the book, I would’ve liked a bit more exploration into Manav’s backstory. We’re told about his scars and his past, but some of it remains at the surface. A few plot developments felt a tad predictable, and I think certain emotional resolutions could have had more weight. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise satisfying and heartfelt romance.

Final Take – A Cozy, Satisfying Romantic Escape

Overall, Drunk On Love was a wonderful surprise. It’s cozy without being cliché, romantic without being over-the-top, and emotional without being exhausting. The book had me smiling in places, sighing in others, and even pausing occasionally to soak in a line or two. If you enjoy slow-burn romances with emotionally layered characters, this is definitely one to add to your list.
